6 things to know before shopping at Aldi
DILWORTH - A new grocery store opened its doors to local consumers last week. But as some Aldi shoppers might have discovered, the experience can be confusing or even intimidating at first.
If you've never been to an Aldi store before, here are a few insider tips you need to know before stepping inside.
Bring a quarter.
This may seem like an odd request, but it's necessary in order to use a shopping cart. Aldi will rent out one shopping cart in exchange for a quarter. You can use the cart for as long as you'd like while you shop. When you're finished shopping, you simply replace the shopping cart in the designated area and your quarter will be returned to you. This helps prevent carts from being left in the parking lot and damaging cars.
You don't need coupons to save.
Aldi receives extensive hype from consumers because their prices are jaw-droppingly low. There's no need to use coupons, nor are they accepted. Aldi has its own store-brand products. Not only will you save money, but you'll spend less time in the store. Instead of comparing 13 different brands of ketchup, you can narrow down your search by purchasing the Aldi store brand.
Aldi is open at peak shopping times.
Most grocery stores are open 24 hours a day, but Aldi is different. If you're craving a pint of ice cream at midnight, you'll find yourself disappointed. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the exception of Sunday when operating hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This keeps costs down as employees work fewer hours to reduce operating costs.
Bring your own bags.
Aldi wants to help you save money while also helping the planet, which means reducing the number of plastic bags being used. Aldi recommends you bring your own bags. There's a bagging station when you are finished checking out your items. Forgot to bring a bag? No worries. Aldi sells paper bags for 6 cents and plastic bags for 10 cents.
Replace or refund items.
If a product you bought is not up to your standards, you can bring that item and your receipt to the store for a full refund plus a replacement item.
Don't get too comfortable with certain items.
Aldi features Aldi Finds, premium food and household products that are only offered for a limited time. As they say on their website, "See something you like? Grab it now because here today could mean gone tomorrow."
