Turkey barn destroyed in fire near New York Mills
NEW YORK MILLS, Minn. – A turkey barn owned by Jennie-O was completely destroyed by fire, but was not occupied by animals or workers at the time of the blaze.
The fire happened in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 12, at 41963 Otter Tail County Highway 53 near New York Mills, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office said.
When sheriff’s deputies and firefighters from surrounding communities arrived, they found the turkey barn “fully engulfed,” the sheriff’s office said.
Firefighters from Perham, Dent, New York Mills and Vergas were able to control the blaze, which was believed to have been started by a propane heater.
The structure was a complete loss, but a damage estimate was not immediately available.
