Drunk driver with children in the vehicle leads police on high-speed chase

ROTHSAY - A man is in jail this morning after leading officers on a high-speed chase.

Wilkin County Ddeputies responded to a driving complaint call at 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The complaint reported that a vehicle was swearving on I-94 and got off at Rothsay before heading north on Wilkin County Road 52.

Deputies were able to locate the vehicle near 120th St. and County Road 52 just south of Barnesville and tried to stop it, but the driver fled onto a maintenance road.

The vehicle reached Highway 9 and went north towards Barnesville at speeds of over one hundred miles-per-hour. 

A Barnesville officer was able to successfully use spike strips to stop the vehicle. The vehicle then slowed down and turned onto a gravel road on the southwest side of Barnesville, where it went into the right ditch and stopped.

A Wilkin County deputy and a Barnesville officer took the driver, 27-year-old Andrew Davidson into custody. Davidson's two young children, ages 5 and 8 were also in the backseat of the vehicle.

He was taken to Wilkin County Jail and is facing several charges including fleeing in a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, child endangerment, reckless driving, open bottle and possession of drug paraphenalia.
