WDAY - No. 1 Warroad girls hockey took down No. 4 Alexandria on Friday 7-1 in the Xcel Energy Center. Alexandria started the scoring wiht a Anna Doherty goal, but from there it was all Warriors. Hannah Corneliusen (x2), Genevieve Hendrickson (x2), Kaitlyn Kotlowski (x2), Tiffani Foster all score. The Warriors will take on Breckenridge Saturday for the Class A Championship.
FARGO - When the North-South girls hockey team takes the ice tomorrow, the emotions may be overflowing for one player, who this time last year thought she may never play the game again. Senior Sammy Martin was diagosed last year with juvenile dermatomyositis an inflammatory disease of the muscles, skin and blood vessels. Martin had to undergo several rounds of chemotherapy and medicine to combat the disease. She missed the entire 2016-17 season, but served as North-South's team manager.
FARGO - It was the semifinals of the North Dakota state individual tournament Friday for Class A and B. West Fargo's Jared Franek will get his chance to repeat as champion after taking down Dylan Fleck of Mandan at 160. Valley City's Jacob Tangen will get a shot at the individual crown after a semifinal win over Ronald Wilkie of Turtle Mountain. Lisbon's Jordan Urbach will get a chance to finish off a perfect season with a individual title after downing Bailey Lawson. CLASS A Championships:
WDAY-TV - The hockey postseason began on Tuesday in North Dakota, as Fargo North and Grand Forks Central won their first matches of the East Region hockey tournament. No. 4 North took down No. 5 Devils Lake at home 6-2 the final, while No. 1 G.F. Central cruised past No. 8 Sheyenne 7-0. North and Central will matchup on Friday at 6:00 in Purpr Arena.
WDAY-TV - The hockey postseason began on Tuesday in North Dakota, as Fargo Davies and Grand Forks Red River won their first matches of the East Region hockey tournament. No. 2 Red River blasted No. 7 Fargo South/Shanley 7-0, while No.3 Davies cruised past No. 6 Grafton-Park River 7-2. Davies will travel to take on Red River on Friday in the Purpur, puck will drop around 8:00.
WDAY-TV - Shanley toped South in EDC action on Tuesday 82-76, Jake Kava led the Deacons in scoring with 25. No. 2 in Class B Hillsboro-Central Valley held off No. 3 Thompson at home 58-57 off a last second Carson Henningsgard shot.
MAYVILLE, N.D. - No. 2 Hillsboro/Central Valley outlasted May-Port-C-G on the road Monday, 46-38. The Burros were led by Jack Camrud who had 10 points and 11 boards, while MPCG was paced by Reese Hanson who had 12. H/CV hosts No. 3 Thompson on Tuesday.
FARGO - Oak Grove invaded the Civic Center in Fargo for the HOL Showcase as they took on the D-G-F Rebels. The Grovers were powered by Andrew Christianson's 32 points and strong 2nd half, 85-73 the final. Grovers will be back at home on February 16th as they host Northern Cass.
KINDRED, N.D. - The Barnesville Trojan girls basketball team traveled across state lines on Monday to take on No. 9 Kindred. This one was close from the first horn to the last second shot that Nicole Herbranson knocked in to give the Trojans the 53-51 win. Herbranson led Barnesville with 19, while Kindred was led by Abby Duchscherer who had a game high 23.
PERHAM, M.N. - Now that we've reached February, the race is on to determine who's going to be the real contenders to make a serious postseason run. The Perham boys basketball team is certainly in the conversation, especially after this weekend as the Yellowjackets beat rival Breckenridge, then dusted one of North Dakota's top teams in Oak Grove. It's been five years since the Yellowjackets reached the state tournament and for this year's team the sky is the limit.
